This workshop will help participants to understand the process and challenges of acquiring, renovating and selling bank-owned properties in the current economic climate. Presenters will discuss federal REO acquisition opportunities available in Baltimore, and strategies for acquiring REO properties.

Local Impact of National Policy and Programs
Workshop attendees will learn how national housing policies and programs are affecting Baltimore area residents. Presenters will also share timely information on housing market trends and potential solutions to the foreclosure crisis.

Enforcement Best Practices and New Scams
Families all over the country are being re-victimized as they seek assistance to save their homes. To find out the latest scams and scheme affecting our community and what is being done to stop them come to this session. Join law enforcement and prosecutors form the local, state and federal level.

Workshop attendees will learn what works and what doesn’t in foreclosure prevention. Presenters will also share information on local and national best practices in foreclosure prevention and mitigation.

State Policy and Programs
The State of Maryland has been a leader in developing progressive policies relating to foreclosure prevention and mitigation.  At this session, you will learn about the recently concluded Maryland General Assembly session and its impact on foreclosure prevention. National experts will provide a perspective on innovations in other states that we may want to import to Maryland.

Legal Responses to the Mortgage Crisis
The current foreclosure crisis is being fought on many fronts. Maryland is fortunate to have the legal community involved in the struggle to save homes. Attend and find out how lawyers can help prevent foreclosures and serve as important allies in this struggle. Join representatives of local and national legal organizations as they discuss their efforts here and nationally.

Loan Counselor Software Demonstration
This session will provide housing counselors and practitioners a chance to learn about software and technologies available to them with the field and give them a chance to fine-tune knowledge they may already possess of the software. The workshop will be a-hands-on learning experience hosted by representatives from Best Fit, Housing Counselor Online and Counselor Max, allowing participants to ask questions and interact within the software.

For profit, Nonprofit, and Government Refinance Products
Come learn about various refinance products which are currently available at nonprofit, for-profit, and government agencies.  Attendees will obtain information about how community members can access better products if they have to refinance.

Loan Servicer Partnership and Outreach
Interactions between and among borrowers, housing counselors and loan servicers are critical to the success of any foreclosure prevention strategies, including the Obama Administration’s new Housing Affordability and Stability Plan. At this bonus track session, servicers will provide information about their impression of the Federal plan, State and local  initiatives, voluntary steps taken as well as guidance on the best way of achieving positive outcomes for borrowers and servicers.  You will also have the chance to get your questions answered.
